Amazon suppresses a listing when the listing fails one of Amazon's quality or compliance checks: the listing stays in your inventory with its stock and price, but shoppers searching Amazon no longer see it. The most common cause is a main image that breaks Amazon's rules, followed by a title, bullets or attributes that break the listing rules, and missing documents for a restricted product. Seller Central names the reason for each suppressed listing, so the fix starts with reading that reason and changing that one thing.

What is a suppressed listing on Amazon?

A suppressed listing on Amazon is a listing that Amazon has removed from search results because it failed a quality or compliance check. The listing is not deleted: it stays in Seller Central, still in stock and still priced, ready to return once the cause is fixed. Amazon's staff say images that do not meet its standards "may be rejected, removed, or altered", and that "Non-compliant images can lead to product listing suppression from search results."

A suppressed listing is one of the costliest problems a seller can have and one of the easiest to miss, because nothing visibly breaks. The product page still exists, but sales from search stop.

Where do you find suppressed listings in Seller Central?

Suppressed listings appear in Seller Central under Inventory, then Manage All Inventory, in the view of suppressed and inactive listings, as sellers on Amazon's forums describe the route. That view lists each affected listing with the reason and what to change. For title problems, Amazon has pointed sellers to Manage All Inventory to see and fix non-compliant titles.

Check the suppressed listings view every week, not only when sales drop. Amazon runs its checks again after a listing goes live, so a listing can be suppressed days or months after upload.

Why is my listing suppressed on Amazon?

An Amazon listing is usually suppressed for one named reason, and the reason falls into one of four groups. The table below sorts the common causes by where the fix happens.

CauseTypical reason shownWhere the fix happens
Main imageText, a badge, a non-white background, a product too small, or no imageA new main image
TitleBanned characters or a word repeated more than twiceThe title field
Bullets and descriptionRestricted symbols, emojis or phrases; missing contentThe bullets or description
AttributesA required field missing or contradicting anotherThe named attribute
Restricted productA missing registration, certificate or label imageA document or attribute

Read the reason Seller Central gives before changing anything. A suppression often has one cause, and editing other parts of the listing at the same time makes it harder to tell what fixed it.

Which main image problems suppress an Amazon listing?

The main image is the most common cause of a suppressed Amazon listing. Amazon's main image rules ask for a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), the product filling 85% or more of the frame, no added text, graphics or watermarks, the actual product rather than an illustration, and no props or accessories that are not included in the purchase. Amazon also asks for images from 500 to 10,000 pixels on the longest side, with zoom from over 1,000 pixels.

Main image problemFix
Text, a badge or a logo added to the main imageRemove everything added and keep only the product
A background that is near-white, not pure whiteCut out the product and place it on pure white
The product too small in the frameCrop so the product fills 85% or more
Props or extra items in the shotRemove anything not in the box
A render or drawing instead of a photoUse a photo of the real product
An image too small to zoomAt least 1,000 pixels on the longest side
No main image at allUpload at least one image

Words on the main image are the classic case. A seller on Amazon's European forum describes a main image rejected again and again for containing text, while the same image without the text was accepted. The article on white background product photos covers making a main image that passes, and the article on Amazon product image requirements covers every image slot.

Can a title, bullets or attributes suppress an Amazon listing?

Yes. An Amazon title, bullet points, description or attributes can each suppress a listing when they break Amazon's rules or leave a required field empty.

Titles. Since 27 July 2026, Amazon titles in most categories must be 75 characters or fewer. Amazon says listings stay active while it replaces long titles with recommended versions, so a long title alone does not suppress a listing. Amazon's January 2025 title rules still apply: no ! $ ? _ { } ^ ¬ ¦ unless the character is part of the brand name, and no word repeated more than twice. The article on Amazon's title rules covers both sets of rules.

Bullets and description. Since August 2024, Amazon restricts special characters, emojis and some phrases in bullet points, and says it removes non-compliant content. Sellers on Amazon's forums report listings suppressed for a missing description or missing bullets, even when the content appears in the edit view.

Attributes. Required attributes for a product type, such as brand, item type, size or colour, can suppress an Amazon listing when a field is empty or two fields contradict each other. The reason Seller Central gives usually names the field.

Why does my Amazon listing show images I did not upload?

An Amazon listing that several sellers share does not always show your images. Amazon has said it gives brand owners' images priority, uses other sellers' images only when required images are missing, and expects each product page to have at least three images: the product on white, the product in an environment, and an image with product information such as dimensions.

If an image that breaks Amazon's rules appears on your listing and you did not upload it, Amazon says Selling Partner Support can remove an inaccurate image. Uploading a complete set of compliant images also reduces the chance that Amazon fills a gap with another seller's image.

Why is one variation suppressed and not the others?

Amazon checks each child listing in a variation family separately. One size or colour can be suppressed while the others sell, for example because that child's main image is missing or shows a different colour from the one the child sells. When one variation stops selling, check that child's status in Seller Central before looking at the whole family.

Which restricted products need a document rather than a new image?

Some Amazon suppressions are about what the product is, not how the listing looks, and the fix is a document or an attribute.

  • Supplements. As relayed by a labelling software company, Amazon asks supplement sellers for images of the full label with the complete Supplement Facts panel, no computer-drawn or AI-generated label images, and claims that match the panel. The supplement rules cover the rest.
  • Pesticides and insect repellents. A product that claims to repel or kill pests needs its EPA registration or establishment number in Amazon's pesticide attribute. The insect repellent and pesticide rules explain where the number comes from.
  • Toys and children's products, which carry warning and certificate requirements. See the toy rules.
  • Dangerous goods, such as products with lithium batteries, aerosols or flammable liquids, which go through a review before they can sell. See the lithium battery rules.

For a restricted product, read the reason, provide the document or attribute it asks for, and keep a copy of everything you send.

How do you fix a suppressed Amazon listing?

To fix a suppressed Amazon listing, read the reason in Seller Central, change the one thing it names, save, and check the listing again after a day. The full routine:

  1. Read the reason Seller Central gives for the listing.
  2. Fix that one thing, directly in the listing. Sellers on Amazon's forums report better results editing the listing itself than through quick-fix forms.
  3. Save, and note the date and time of the change.
  4. Wait, then check again. Changes can take time to show, and sellers report that some suppressions take longer than expected to clear.
  5. Check the rest of the listing against Amazon's rules if the suppression does not clear: a second problem can hide behind the first.
  6. Contact Seller Support with the listing and what you changed if the listing stays suppressed. Amazon's moderators point sellers there for listing-specific reviews.

A worked example shows how short the fix can be. A seller's best-selling candle stops selling, and Seller Central lists it among the suppressed listings with a reason about the main image. The seller finds a small "hand poured" badge that a designer added to the corner of the main image last month. The seller cuts the candle out of the original product photo, places it on pure white filling about 85% of the frame, uploads it as the main image, and moves the badge image to the last image slot, where words are allowed. The next day the candle listing is back in search.

What does "at risk of search suppression" mean on Amazon?

"At risk of search suppression" means Amazon has found a problem with a listing that has not yet removed it from search. Sellers on Amazon's forums describe listings marked at risk as well as listings already suppressed. Treat an at-risk warning as a suppression with a head start: Seller Central already names the reason, and fixing the listing now costs no lost sales.

Which edits most often cause an Amazon suppression?

A listing that sold for months can be suppressed after an edit. These five changes are the usual triggers:

  • A new main image, especially one made by a designer or a new supplier. Check the white background, the fill and that nothing is added.
  • A rewritten title, which must meet the current title rules.
  • Bullets pasted from another marketplace, which can carry symbols or emojis Amazon restricts.
  • A changed product, such as a new formula, label or packaging. The listing's images and attributes must match the product you now sell.
  • A bulk upload, where one wrong column can empty a required attribute on hundreds of listings at once.

After any of these edits, check the listing's status in Seller Central the next day.

How do you stop Amazon listings being suppressed?

Most Amazon suppressions are preventable with a compliant main image, copy written to the current rules, and a weekly check.

  • Make the main image right before upload: the product alone, on pure white, filling 85% or more of the frame.
  • Write to the current rules: a title of 75 characters or fewer in most categories, compliant bullets, and every required attribute.
  • Check category rules before listing anything in a restricted or regulated category.
  • Open the suppressed and inactive listings view every week, because Amazon runs its checks again after upload.
  • Keep a suppression log with the date, the listing, the reason Seller Central gave, what you changed and when the listing cleared. After a few months the log shows patterns, such as a supplier whose photos keep failing the white background check, so you can fix the source rather than each listing.
  • Keep originals and documents together, so a fix takes minutes when a reason appears.

How Commicorn helps

  • A main image that meets Amazon's rules: your product, from your photo, on pure white, filling the frame, with nothing added.
  • A title, Item highlights and bullets written to Amazon's current rules: the 75-character title, banned symbols removed, compliant bullets.
  • Your labels, as printed. On the Untouched product route the pixels of your photo are never redrawn, so a label photo stays exactly as printed.
  • Keywords checked against Amazon's bans, with the reason shown.

Questions sellers ask

Can an Amazon listing be suppressed even though nothing changed?

Yes. Amazon runs its checks again after a listing goes live, and Amazon's rules change, so a listing that passed last year can be suppressed today without any edit from the seller.

Is a suppressed Amazon listing the same as a deleted listing?

No. A suppressed Amazon listing is hidden from search but stays in Seller Central with its stock and price, and it returns to search once the cause is fixed.

How long does a suppressed Amazon listing take to come back?

Sellers on Amazon's forums report that a fixed listing can take time to return to search, and that some suppressions take longer than expected to clear. Check the listing a day after the fix, and contact Seller Support if it stays suppressed.

Does a title over 75 characters suppress an Amazon listing?

Amazon says listings stay active while it replaces titles longer than 75 characters with recommended versions, under the rule that started on 27 July 2026. Banned characters and words repeated more than twice still break the January 2025 title rules.

Is a suppressed listing a problem with my Amazon account?

No. A suppressed listing concerns one listing; account health in Seller Central is a separate measure of the whole account.
