AliExpress listing requirements: images, title, attributes and descriptions
What an AliExpress product listing must have: image size, background and order, how to write the title, the required, variation and safety attributes, what a description may and may not contain, and the listing rules that get products removed.

On this page
An AliExpress listing needs images of at least 800 by 800 pixels, best on a white or plain background, with no borders, watermarks or collages, a title of the brand and the product name with no words that are not facts about the item, every required attribute for the category, and a description with no outside links or contact details. Branded goods need the brand owner's authorisation, and CE-marked products sold into the EU carry a label with the manufacturer's and responsible person's names and addresses. Integrators differ on the limits: Wisepim gives titles a maximum of 128 characters and the gallery up to six images, CedCommerce's connector 255 characters and eight images shown.
AliExpress has taken US sellers since October 2024, first through AliExpressLocal Direct and since March 2025 through AliExpressLocal Marketplace, as Modern Retail reported. Its listing rules were written for a global marketplace, and they read that way: strict on truth in titles, strict on images that hide or dress up the product, and detailed on safety paperwork.
This guide covers each part of the listing, with the rules AliExpress publishes for sellers and the limits integrators relay, then a checklist. For joining AliExpress in the first place, see selling on Shein, Wayfair, Kohl's and AliExpress.
What images does an AliExpress listing need?
AliExpress's listing standard for clothing recommends images of at least 800 by 800 pixels, on a white or solid-colour background, with a width-to-height ratio from 1:1 to 1:1.3, and allows no borders, watermarks or collages. Wisepim's guide sets 800 pixels as the minimum, with 1,000 pixels or more preferred, and JPEG or PNG files. The clothing standard also places any logo in the upper-left corner of the image.
| Rule | What AliExpress or its integrators say |
|---|---|
| Minimum size | 800 by 800 pixels |
| Shape | 1:1 to 1:1.3, width to height |
| Background | White or a solid colour; the main image on a clean, preferably white background |
| Not allowed | Borders, watermarks, collages |
| Logo | Upper-left corner |
| Files | JPEG or PNG |
| Gallery | Up to six images, the first the main one, per Wisepim; only the first eight shown, per CedCommerce |
The two integrators disagree on the gallery count, and the safe reading serves both: put your six strongest images first, so a shopper sees them whichever count applies. In both accounts the first image is the main image.
Make the image set work: the main image clean and true, then the back, the sides, a close-up of the material or the controls, the label, the product in use and the product beside something familiar for scale. A 2,000-pixel square from your Amazon or Walmart set meets AliExpress's minimum and shape; see the table of image sizes for every marketplace.
What does AliExpress forbid in images?
AliExpress forbids borders, watermarks and collages in its clothing standard, which puts any logo in the upper-left corner. Its adult-category standard goes further: AliExpress reserves the right to remove listings, and in serious cases close accounts, that, in AliExpress's words, “hide, occlude, or obscure product pictures, or hide product information by other means, with the intention to circumvent” its standards and other rules.
The working rule is that an image shows the item clearly and as it is. A frame of promotional text, a grid of six colours in one main image, or a shop name stamped over the photo breaks it. Show colours one to an image, and show the item the buyer receives, at the size it is.
How do you write an AliExpress title?
AliExpress's clothing standard recommends a title of the brand name followed by the commodity name for branded goods, and states that the title "cannot include any words or symbols that are irrelevant to factual information of the commodity". Wisepim adds that the title must include the product type and its main distinguishing features, and must not carry promotional phrases such as "Free Shipping", "Hot Sale" or "Best Price".
On length, Wisepim gives a maximum of 128 characters and CedCommerce's connector 255. Write to 128 and the title fits under both.
A title built to those rules reads: "Northfield Merino Wool Crew Neck Jumper Men Ribbed Cuffs Navy". Brand, product type, material, the features a buyer filters by, colour. No capitals for emphasis, no symbols, no claims.
Which words in an AliExpress title need proof?
Material words in an AliExpress title carry minimum contents in its clothing standard: "pure wool" or "100% wool" needs 100% wool, "pure cashmere" or "100% cashmere" at least 95% cashmere with the rest wool, "wool" or "cashmere" on knitwear at least 30%, "silk" at least 30% silk, and "down" at least 50% down content. A title that says "silk" on a polyester blouse breaks the rule even if the description says polyester.
Treat every claim word the same way. If the label does not say it, the title does not say it. Our page on clothing and textile labelling covers fibre names in more detail.
Which attributes does AliExpress require?
AliExpress requires the attributes its category form marks as required, and an upload stops until every one is filled. CedCommerce's connector sorts AliExpress attributes into four groups:
| Group | What it holds | Needed? |
|---|---|---|
| Required | The category's mandatory fields | Yes, for the upload to go through |
| Product safety (GPSR) | Compliance details, updated when documents or labels change | For goods sold into the EU |
| Variation | Colour, size and the values each variant carries | For products with variants |
| Recommended | Optional fields | No, but they help shoppers find the item |
Wisepim lists the specifications most categories ask for: brand name, material, dimensions, colour and the category's technical attributes. Fill the recommended fields with true values too, because they help shoppers find the item.
What safety details does an AliExpress listing need?
AliExpress's Product Listing Policy makes the seller responsible for not posting any item that is prohibited by law in any jurisdiction. For products in the categories that need CE marking in the EU, AliExpress's FAQ says the label must carry at least the product information, the names and addresses of the manufacturer and the responsible person, and the CE mark; the responsible person can be the manufacturer, an importer, an authorised representative or a fulfilment service provider in the EU.
Keep the attributes and the label in step: the manufacturer, the responsible person and the warnings in the listing should be the ones printed on the product. Photograph the real label, sharp and straight on, for your records and your image set. Our page on GPSR for sellers explains who the responsible person is and what the label carries.
What can an AliExpress description contain?
An AliExpress description can use HTML, and Wisepim recommends 500 to 5,000 characters. It must not contain outside web addresses, contact information or references to other platforms.
Write the description as the answer to a buyer's questions in order: what it is, what it is made of, the measurements, how it fits or works, what is in the package, how to care for it. For clothing and shoes, put a size table in the description. Keep every figure the same as the attributes; a description that says 60 cm when the attribute says 58 cm sends the buyer to a dispute.
What gets an AliExpress listing removed?
AliExpress removes counterfeits, branded goods listed without the brand owner's authorisation and prohibited products, and its adult-category standard adds listings that hide or obscure product images to get around its rules. Its Product Listing Policy allows branded goods only when the brand owner has issued a certificate of authorisation, and bans alcohol outright.
The AliExpress listing checklist
- Choose the most specific category, so the form asks for the right required attributes and the listing is not rejected.
- Write the title as brand plus product name, product type and features, no promotional words, within 128 characters.
- Check every material word in the title against the label and AliExpress's minimum contents.
- Make the images 800 pixels or more, 1:1 to 1:1.3, white or plain background, no borders, watermarks or collages.
- Put the six strongest images first, with the main image in position 1.
- Fill every required and variation attribute, and the recommended ones you can fill truthfully.
- Add the safety details for goods sold into the EU, matching the label.
- Write the description with no outside links, contact details or other platforms named.
- Have the brand owner's authorisation on file for any brand you did not make.

Questions sellers ask
What size should AliExpress product images be?
AliExpress product images should be at least 800 by 800 pixels, with a width-to-height ratio from 1:1 to 1:1.3, on a white or solid-colour background. Wisepim's guide adds JPEG or PNG as the file types.
How many images does AliExpress show?
Wisepim's guide allows up to six images in the gallery and CedCommerce's connector says only the first eight are shown; in both, the first image is the main one. Put your six strongest images first so they show under either count.
How long can an AliExpress title be?
Wisepim gives AliExpress titles a maximum of 128 characters, and CedCommerce's connector allows 255. Write within 128 characters and lead with the brand and product name, as AliExpress's clothing standard recommends.
Can I put my logo or a watermark on AliExpress images?
A logo, yes; a watermark, no. AliExpress's clothing standard rules out borders, watermarks and collages and places a logo in the upper-left corner of the image. Keep the logo small and clear of the product, so nothing hides what the buyer receives.
Can I sell branded products on AliExpress?
Yes, if the brand owner has issued you a certificate of authorisation; AliExpress's Product Listing Policy permits branded goods on that condition and bans counterfeits and unlicensed replicas. Keep the certificate on file before the listing goes live.
The last word
AliExpress rewards listings that state facts and show the product plainly, and removes listings that dress it up. Build the title from the label, keep the images clean of frames and stamps, and make the attributes, description and images say the same thing. Every rule here comes back to that one: the buyer receives what the listing described.
