Kohl's Marketplace listing requirements: images, titles, attributes and what a seller needs to list
What a Kohl's Marketplace listing must have in 2026: the business requirements, the square white main image and side-view alternatives, how to write the title, the attributes and barcodes it reads, and how listings reach Kohl's through integrators.

On this page
A Kohl's Marketplace listing needs a UPC on every offer, a square JPEG main image showing the front of the product on white with no added badges, up to four square side-view alternatives, a plain-text description with no HTML, and the attributes Kohl's reads, such as brand, colour family, material, size and origin. Behind the listing, Kohl's expects a US-registered business with a W-9, a taxpayer ID, liability insurance, a US warehouse and a US return address.
Kohl's is growing its marketplace fast. Reporting Kohl's second-quarter 2026 results on 1 September 2026, Digital Commerce 360 quoted Kohl's: "This year, we are more than doubling our selection of marketplace products and vendors", and reported its marketplace business up 88% on the year before. More sellers means more listings competing for the same shoppers, and a clean listing is the part you control.
The guide to selling on Shein, Wayfair, Kohl's and AliExpress compares Kohl's with three other marketplaces.
What is Kohl's Marketplace?
Kohl's Marketplace is the part of Kohls.com where third-party sellers list products that ship directly from the seller. Kohl's describes it as "a curated online assortment of new brands, products, and categories" that is "shipped directly from third-party merchants", and its seller page pitches a customer base of over 65 million people. In March 2023 Kohl's named apparel and accessories, sports and fitness, pet supplies, home, toys, baby gear and electronics as the categories it wanted to grow. Sellers apply through the Apply Now form on Kohl's marketplace sign-up page.
Marketplace items can be returned at any Kohl's store. That shapes listing work more than sellers expect: a buyer can walk an item back into a store, so a listing that overstates a colour, a size or a material costs you a return.
What does a seller need before listing on Kohl's?
A seller needs a US business set up to ship and take returns in the US before listing on Kohl's. Kohl's asks for a business registered in the United States, a W-9, liability insurance, a taxpayer identification number, a warehouse in the US and a US return address. ChannelEngine adds returns handling and at least email customer service.
| Requirement | What Kohl's asks for |
|---|---|
| Business | Registered in the United States |
| Tax | A W-9 and a US taxpayer identification number |
| Insurance | Liability insurance |
| Warehouse | In the US |
| Returns | A US return address and a returns process |
| Service | Customer service by email at a minimum |
| Barcodes | A UPC on every offer |
Kohl's application, as Value Added Resource reported, asks for your approximate SKU count, whether you own the brand, whether you use distribution centres or third-party fulfilment, whether you take unique photos or use vendor-provided images, and how you connect to other marketplaces for product and stock data. Have each answer ready.
What image requirements does Kohl's Marketplace have?
Kohl's main image is a square JPEG of the front of the product on a white background, up to 15 MB, with no added emblems, awards or badges. The rules for each image slot:
| Image | What Kohl's asks for |
|---|---|
| Main image | Square (1:1), front view, white background, JPEG, up to 15 MB, no emblems, awards or badges |
| Alternative images 1 to 4 | Square (1:1), side view, white background, JPEG, up to 10 MB each |
Kohl's Home vendor style guide, written for the vendors who supply Kohl's rather than for marketplace sellers, goes further on size. It asks for every image to be square, at least 2,000 pixels a side, in JPEG or TIFF, with the main view on white and no added graphics, and welcomes lifestyle and detail shots after it. It is not a marketplace rule, but it shows the image standard Kohl's asks of its vendors, and a 2,000-pixel JPEG square on white meets the integrator rules as well.
Two practical consequences:
- Shoot a true side view. The alternative slots ask for a side view, so the shot list needs one, not five versions of the front.
- No badges on the main image. "Best seller", "new" and sale stickers have no place on it.
The guide to white background product photos covers how to get a clean white main image, and product image sizes for every marketplace compares Kohl's with the rest.
How should you write a Kohl's product title?
Write a Kohl's title as a short catalogue line: brand, what the item is and its style, with the features left to the fields built for them. ChannelEngine maps the product title as one field, with separate fields for brand, style description, fabric or material and feature bullets, and that is where the detail goes. The style description holds 40 characters and the display colour 22.
A catalogue line, not a search phrase:
Feature-heavy: Women's Soft Breathable Lightweight Stretchy Comfortable Casual Knit Cardigan Sweater for Work Office Travel
Catalogue line: Brand Women's Ribbed Knit Cardigan
The features in the first version are not lost. They belong in the feature bullets, the description and attributes such as material. Keep the title as short as the brand, product type and style allow.
Which attributes does a Kohl's listing need?
A Kohl's listing carries its facts in attributes. Kohl's requires these on every product, with the PFAS flag where it applies:
| Attribute | What to put in it |
|---|---|
| Brand | Your brand name, exactly as everywhere else |
| Care | The care type, such as hand wash |
| Colour family | The product's primary colour, picked from Kohl's list |
| Display colour | The colour name shoppers see, 22 characters at most |
| Style description | A short style name, 40 characters at most |
| Fabric or material | What the item is made of |
| Size | The size, as the National Retail Federation size code |
| Country of origin | Where the item was made |
| Product feature bullets | At least two, shown as bullet points on Kohl's: features 1 and 2 are required and up to 20 can be sent, one fact each |
| Choking hazard | The choking hazard flag, part of the content Kohl's requires |
| Perishable indicator | Yes if the product is perishable |
| Vendor style number | The parent SKU for a product with variations, or the item's SKU when it stands alone |
| Seller URL | The link to the product on your website |
| Contains PFAS | Whether the product contains PFAS, needed to ship certain categories to Minnesota |
| UPC and price | Required on every offer |
Sellers choose whether to send full product content to Kohl's or offers only; map every required attribute before turning on full content. An item sent with gaps reaches Kohl's with gaps.
For apparel, size and colour family carry the facts a buyer checks first. Get them right on every variant, and keep the size chart in step with them: the guide to size charts covers how.
What should the description say?
A Kohl's description is plain text: Kohl's does not support HTML in it. Write it as short paragraphs: what the item is, what it is made of, its measurements, how to care for it, and what comes in the box. Put the feature detail you took out of the title here and in the feature bullets.
Because Kohl's takes returns in its stores, the description is also your best defence against them. State the fit, the true colour and the exact size, and say what is not included if a buyer would assume it is.
How do listings reach Kohl's?
Listings reach Kohl's through integrators. Sellercloud can connect to Kohl's through Mirakl, the marketplace platform, and only the Mirakl master account can create the API key the connection needs. ChannelEngine and e-tailize offer connections too, each mapping your product data to Kohl's fields.
Whichever route you use, the integrator sends what your product record holds. If the record lacks a side-view image, a size or an origin, the Kohl's listing lacks it too. Fix the record once and every channel it feeds improves; the guide to listing on several marketplaces explains how.

Questions sellers ask
What are the requirements to sell on Kohl's Marketplace?
Kohl's asks for a US-registered business, a W-9, liability insurance, a taxpayer ID, a US warehouse and a US return address, and every offer needs a UPC.
What size should Kohl's Marketplace images be?
Kohl's Home vendor style guide asks its vendors for square images of at least 2,000 pixels a side in JPEG or TIFF, and the marketplace takes a main image of up to 15 MB and alternatives of up to 10 MB each.
Can a Kohl's main image have badges or text?
No. The main image carries no added emblems, awards or badges, and Kohl's Home vendor style guide asks its vendors for the main view on white with no added graphics.
How long should a Kohl's product title be?
As short as the brand, the item and its style allow. Kohl's reads the detail from the fields ChannelEngine maps beside the title: brand, style description, display colour, material and feature bullets. Those fields are tight: 40 characters for the style description and 22 for the display colour.
Does Kohl's take returns for marketplace items in store?
Yes. Kohl's Marketplace items are eligible for in-store returns at any Kohl's location.
The last word
A Kohl's listing works when it reads like Kohl's: a short catalogue title, a clean white front view, a true side view, and attributes that carry every fact. Kohl's takes returns in its stores, so the one thing to get right is accuracy; a listing that tells the buyer exactly what arrives keeps the item out of the returns bin.
